School Cleaner Required

Hours of work:  25 hours term-time only (5 hours per day). These can be at the end of the day or split in the morning before school or after school. 38 weeks, extra hours by negotiation according to need.

Responsible to: Headteacher

 

PURPOSE OF THE POST

We are looking for a cleaner to provide a thorough cleaning service to all parts of the school and to ensure a high level of hygiene is maintained at all times.

 

You will need to ensure that our classrooms, toilets, corridors, offices, and all other areas of the school are cleaned to the highest standard through washing, polishing, sweeping and vacuuming where necessary.

To ensure that the building and contents are secured at the end of the day.

Provide such access to the school as may reasonably be required outside the normal hours of opening, including access in the event of flood, snow or other similar emergencies.

Salary

Scale 1 Point 3 :  £24,796 per annum (pro rata).  Actual Salary £14,047.63

Weeks per year: 38 weeks per year, term time only

MAIN ACTIVITIES:

  • To ensure that the building and contents are secured at the end of the day.
  • To clean designated areas to a high standard (see attached schedule)
  • To follow cleaning frequency as agreed with the headteacher
  • To ensure correct usage of cleaning materials.
  • To use powered equipment as directed by the headteacher.
  • To undertake training in health and safety and the use of cleaning chemicals (COSHH) Training
  • To have due regard for Health and Safety issues.
  • To be responsible for reporting any problems relating to Health and Safety to the headteacher/office manager.

EXPECTATIONS:

  • To attend punctually, according to agreed hours.
  • To be appropriately dressed.
  • To be flexible in covering overall work load.
  • To be willing to undertake varied duties according to the needs of the school, as requested by the Headteacher.
  • To regularly rotate within cleaning areas as directed by Headteacher.

The duties may be varied by the Headteacher and/or Governing Body to meet changed circumstances in a manner compatible with the post held.

Other duties

Emptying of litter baskets and bins inside and outside the school building, disposal of all rubbish and cleanliness of dustbin areas.

Putting refuse bins out for collection the evening before the designated day.

Replenishment of soap, toilet rolls and towels.

Removing graffiti and other irremovable stains and damage.

 

Security

To ensure, at the end of the day, that windows are closed, lights switched off and internal doors locked, as might be required.  To lock external doors and gates and set alarm system.

 

Additional hours during part of the school summer holiday for cleaning work which will include a routine deep clean and other tasks that become necessary.
