Foxton Primary School

Autumn in Class 2

This half term Class 2's Topic has been Harvest. We have learnt about the the fruit and vegetables that are harvested at this time of year, about old and new farming, and wrote harvest poems and riddles.

In Art we mixed the primary colours yellow, red and blue to make oranges and greens and painted sweetcorn for our classroom harvest display.

In RE we have been learning about the importance of harvest for Christians and we visited St Laurence Church. Rev Angela explained about the importance of bread to Christians. We then made our own delicious bread rolls and wrote instructions about how to make them.

In English we studied The Enormous Turnip. We acted it out, learnt the story with actions and performed it to the school and visitors in the Harvest Assembly.

Class 2 have also written letters to their new penfriends at our twin school in France. We also learnt "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes" in French and sang it to the rest of the school in our assembly.

In Science we learnt about autumn and what happens to trees in this season. In Art we cut out leaves and made beautiful pictures by dipping a finger in autumn coloured paint and dabbing it all over the page. We then remove the leaves and created a stunning silhouette picture.

As part of our History of Toys topic we went to Ely Museum where we learnt about, and played with, old toys. We learnt some old playground games. In History we made an information book about toys, including our favourite toy from home, toys our parents played with, and our favourite toy from Ely museum. We learnt about how non-fiction books are laid out and made our own contents page.

Continuing with the Toys topic, as part of our Oracy Project we made up riddles about a toy from the museum for our partners to guess.

Our favourite lesson was DT when we designed and sewed our own animal felt hand puppet. They all looked amazing!
